Had he found her again only to lose her to a stalker?
Slade Donovan and Kari Malone shared one anonymous night of hot sex. Five years later unexpected circumstances throw them together again and what’s between them burns hotter than ever. But as a member of Delta Force, Slade is wary of relationships, drawn to Kari on the one hand and hesitant on the other. Kari has her own demons, the stalker she moved to escape who seems to track her everywhere.
As the unknown stalker ramps up his game, it will take the Delta Force team to rescue her, and the danger to show them both that what they have is electric, erotic and real.
Slade is the leader of Delta Force, Team Charlie, a special ops team. Delta is Slade’s life, what he lives and breathes. Therefore he’s never thought of a committed relationship plus he’d never met anyone that made him rethink how he’s lived his life. There was one woman who rocked his world five years ago, a one night stand that he hadn’t been able to banish from his thoughts. He would’ve loved to have more than one night with her but she disappeared. They had both given false names to protect their identities for different reasons, so he wasn’t able to find her when he asked around.
After the last op, his team needs a serious break and he invited them all to go to the ranch with him. Within the first chapter, we meet all of Team Charlie, given their call signs and expertise in the field. I was a little worried about that. It’s hard to keep track of who is who among so many people if the author uses epithets along with the various call signs and mixture of first and last names. Lucky, the author stuck to first names mostly, making it easier to follow along. The one team member that stood out for me was brokenhearted, bitter Marc. I would like to read his love story.
Kari is the woman who spent one amazing night with Slade five years ago but today, she isn’t the self-confident woman she once was. When they accidentally cross paths again, they both can’t wait to pick up where they left off, but Kari comes with secrets that she’s reluctant to divulge. Along with Slade and his team, I liked Kari. She’s beaten down but not broken. She’s still very independent and I was worried that she wouldn’t trust Slade until it was too late.
The writing was smooth, although there was a bit of repetition with phrases (such as the use of Slade’s ten day leave. Ten days was repeated a lot.) and with both of them rehashing how much they enjoyed and missed each other. I got it the first time around. They’d like a do over. I’m not sure if it’s because I received an ARC copy but there were occasionally missing punctuation and extra words. Other than that, the story flowed well and the character’s reactions were believable.
I really enjoyed this romance between Slade and Kari. Every time they came together they set the sheets on fire. It was nice to see relationship building outside of the bedroom. The action sequences were thrilling and kept me on the edge of my seat. I also enjoyed see the quick peeks at the romances going on with the rest of the team, especially the hints given about Marc’s. I would love to get my hands onto his book. 😊
