Cillian Kelly can look into people’s eyes and see their fates. He’s running from a past filled with mistakes, lying low and selling his services on the sly. When he learns that Sören Egilsson, a man who sacrificed himself so Cillian could escape imprisonment two years ago, is somehow still alive, Cillian has to find out how. What he gets is the body of the man he loves possessed by an ancient spirit who draws Cillian into a battle to the death for the right to control Sören’s fate, and the power that comes with it.
Cillian Kelly is a soothsayer of questionable morals, haunted by Sören Egilsson who sacrificed himself for Cillian. Now two years later, Cillian reads an article containing the picture of his lost lover who is miraculously not dead. Which is impossible. Cillian had read Sören the night Sören helped him to escape, and there was no mistaking the darkness that swallowed Sören was death… or was it?
This is a story about second chances and making amends. Cillian’s journey was action packed and filled with suspense and intrigue. The paranormal part of Cillian, the reading of people’s future, and Marisol’s tarot readings were interesting, giving an extra layer of on intrigue that kept me flipping the pages. I felt bad of Cillian and the relationship he couldn’t have with his mother because of their gifts. I enjoyed the taste of Icelandic lore with the landvaetter. He was a hoot and creepy all in one package. Roger and Annie made me laugh several times (still do when I think about Roger watching Annie with his soft expression). My heart broke for Sören and angry that his father took advantage of Sören’s selflessness. There were hints of an organization that Cillian and his mother were hiding from, as well as hints that Roger and Annie were a bit more that what we were given. I’m hoping these minor loose ends means there is more to come with Cillian. I would definitely pick that story up without even reading the blurb. Awesome story and highly recommended.
