Rex Devious (Dr. Devious to meddlesome do-gooders everywhere) can go toe-to-toe with superheroes without blinking an eye. So picking out a Christmas present for his new boyfriend should be no problem. After all, he and Sanjay seem perfect for each other. But with a terrible track record for finding gifts that won’t scare his potential partners away, Rex is paralyzed with insecurity. Until, of course, he decides to change tactics. Instead of having to pick out that perfect present, why not just destroy Christmas altogether? If his nemeses (or his conscience) can’t stop him first, he might just become the supervillain who stole Christmas.
YES! This story is absolutely fantastic! Rex Devious is a supervillain. And he has issues with Christmas – the main one being that he never gets the right gift for whatever boyfriend he has that year. It’s very discombobulating. And what better way to step around that particular minefield than by making sure Christmas doesn’t happen.
Read this story. Seriously. Read it. I laughed myself silly all the way through it. It was so wonderfully fun from the ‘inside jokes’ about superheroes and how they were not following rules because they were saving the day too early to the names he gave his devices. (I won’t reveal it, but the second device he made to ruin Christmas? I want a mug with that device on it. Or perhaps a T-shirt.)
And the ending? It fit perfectly into the supervillain persona he had while bringing out his heart. And, oh yeah, I want the gift he created for his boyfriend. I could do with a… oh, can’t tell you that.
Now, if they could only make an animated cartoon of it for the holidays…
5 stars. Would give it more if I could.
