After one loser boyfriend too many, Melissa Bell is done with bad boys. So when her ex puts her life in danger once again and a buff, tattooed alpha shifter shows up to rescue her, it’s the last thing she needs.
Cody quickly finds himself wishing that he’d never made an alpha’s promise to keep the haughty human safe, but for some reason his inner wolf craves her more than his next breath. Will his own pride push her away forever, just when he realizes he can’t live without her?
A fast paced story, The Alpha’s Promise offers action, mystery, and lots and lots of sex with the paranormal genre. Having read the first book in this series, I was prepared for some of the disappointment I felt. With that said, it’s not a terrible story.
Ashley and Ben were featured in the first book of the series and this storyline focuses on Ashley’s twin sister, Melissa, and Alpha Cody. Melissa is a mess of a heroine. I much prefer my heroines to be strong, independent, and sassy. Melissa was none of these and that made it difficult to get into this story. She finds trouble wherever she goes, and Cody swoops in to fix things and be owed a favor by Ben….and for the sex.
While this isn’t a terrible book, I was let down by a lot of things and could not look past them to see the entire work. The writing is good, character development is good, but that weak heroine “thing” just isn’t for me. If you like that, then you’ll enjoy this story a lot more than I did. Unfortunately, this is an instance where the small things got in the way of the bigger picture and prevented me from wanting more.
