Sinful pleasure and forbidden desire rule in #1 bestselling author Lora Leigh’s story For Maggie’s Sake, previously published in the anthologies Real Men Do It Better and Taken, now exclusively in e.
Maggie Chavez is in protective custody with a member of her former lover’s SEAL team. Joe, her ex-lover, thinks Maggie is hiding information from him about a powerful drug lord and the deaths of some SEALs. He intends to seduce her and get the information before she can sell it back to the drug cartel. But the desire crackles between them and their attraction is undeniable. How can Joe use her and leave her, when all he wants is to hold her close and never let go?
For Maggie’s Sake is a sensual, sexual, intense, and suspenseful story about second chance love. I really enjoyed the story line and angst involved, but felt like I was missing something at the beginning of the book. When it starts, the reader is thrown right into the middle of an interrogation that seems like it is a continuation of something else. I’m not sure if it is or not, but that is my only issue with this book.
Maggie and Joe were former lovers until Maggie married his best friend after their break up. Thinking her husband was a good guy, she is thrust into chaos when it is revealed that he was involved with the Mafia and she is suspected of knowing all of his dirty secrets after his death. Joe wants to protect the women he never stopped loving and doesn’t believe she knows anything about her husband’s misdoings.
During the entire story line, I got the feeling that Maggie and Joe are soul mates and her marriage to his best friend was just a roadblock on their journey. The intensity of their connection is fierce and very convincing. I really enjoyed this book and how well written it is.
