#Spotlight: Breaker (Exile #1) by Kelly Wyre & A.F. Henley #mm #lgbt #teaser #excerpt #giveaway @AFHenley @kelly_wyre @LT3Press 18

Welcome to the Breaker (Exile, Volume 1) Blog Tour and Giveaway! We’re both super excited about this new release and thrilled to be able to share it with you. Throughout this tour, we’re going to be introducing many of the characters within, and associated with, Exile’s bizarre shores, as well as introducing Exile itself. Then we’re going to top that off with a quick little teaser.

However, before we get into any of that we wanted to remind you that we’ve got a couple of awesome giveaways going along with the tour so be sure to read through to the end to find out how you could win either a Silver-plated Starfish Anklet (just by leaving a single comment!), or the grand prize of a signed, print copy of Breaker, a coordinates bracelet with the Believe. Seek. Prove. reminder so you can always find your way back to the island of Exile, and a $20 gift certificate to the Less Than Three Press book market.

Kelly Wyre: “…keep on hopin’ for… cake by the ocean…”

AF Henley: I think we get that somewhere around chapter five, right?

The Character Discussion

KW: So. Let’s talk about the cranky side of the Island Kings.

AFH: *whispers* Which side is that, exactly? Because all your characters are so cranky, these days…

KW: SO OBERON. Not Oberson. But OBERON. Like the fairy king. And he’d just looooove me for that reference.

AFH; One typo. ONE TYPO. (Speaking of cranky, folks…)

KW: IT WAS WAY MORE THAN ONE. Where’s that Hades .gif when I need it?

AFH: Son comes easily to my fingertips when I’m typing, I guess. Especially when writing gay romance. You know… “Come here, son. Daddy’s—”

KW: I just have no words. I mean, I do have them, just…

AFH: I mean the terms figuratively, not literally!

KW: Anyway. The CHARACTERS. THE CHARACTERS, Henley. Oberon. Island King. Redhead. Firebrand. Healer. Serious badass dude.

AFH: Ohh, yeah. Him. I like him.

The Teaser

Eddie was more than sure he wouldn’t have had the same confidence if he’d been the one staring down an outsider who was potentially lethal, and Kaeva obviously had way, way more experience with just how lethal an Estrangement could get. Which meant that Kaeva was either extremely self-confident or stupid, and from what he’d seen so far, Eddie wasn’t willing to lay down credits on the idea that Kaeva was stupid.

When Eddie spoke again, his voice was oddly bright for the statement. “He’s probably going to kill me.”

Oberon parted his lips in almost kiss-like fashion, and then sucked a breath of air between his teeth. “I hope not.” He reached over and patted Eddie’s shoulder with a short, casual double tap. “And you should probably run. I mean that literally. He not only has a decent lead, but he also outpaces you.”

Maybe it was just exhaustion catching up with him, but the emotion under Oberon’s expression told Eddie that the man would insist, and that if insisting didn’t work… Well, Eddie was pretty sure Oberon would make it work. Using any tool he had at hand. That was another concept that should have had warning bells going off in Eddie’s head, but was, instead, inciting a mesmerizing need to know.

These people, this island, were positively beguiling.

“I don’t think—”

“He’s not nearly as mean as he sounds.”

Eddie shrugged off Oberon’s attempt at appeasement. “I wasn’t going to say I wouldn’t go,” Eddie explained. “I was going to say I don’t think running is possible quite yet.” He waved at his legs, and even that range of motion felt sloppy and disjointed. “Moonzilla is good at what she does.”

Oberon’s frown softened. “Zunella.”

“Ah, yes.” Eddie nodded. “Well, unless Zoomhella has more tricks up her sleeve—”

“You’ll manage,” Oberon said firmly. He held Eddie’s gaze for an uncomfortably long second. “You have to.”

“Well, there we go then.” Eddie lifted one foot and set it back down, testing his ability. In all honesty, the sluggish feeling was dissipating fairly quickly. He flashed Oberon a smile. “You wouldn’t have anybody around here who can fly, would you?”

Oberon looked up at the sky—perhaps checking the distance of the sun, Eddie thought. Or testing the wind, or calling flocks of butterflies. “You seem to be doing that quite nicely on your own, Mr. Florence.”

Eddie snorted. “Up, up and away, then.”

Oberon’s cheeks twitched, half a tic shy of a smile. “On your way, Miss Lane. You’re losing sight of the Caped Crusader.”

Breaker

In the wake of several near-cataclysmic events, humanity created the Cure, a DNA-altering antidote to death by disease and old age. But all cures come with side effects: a small percentage of the population develops a wide range of powers, some of which are lethal to others, and some which are lethal to the wielder.

These people are called the Estranged, hunted and shunned, safe only on the Island of Exile. It is here that Kaeva and Eddie meet—and where they set a prophecy in motion, quite possibly sealing their own demise, and even the end of Exile.

Genre: Gay, Urban Fantasy

Notes: contains some explicit content and includes thoughts and discussions of past and potential suicide

Thank you very much, Shirley! I personally really enjoy writing with Kelly. Although Kelly spoils me because Kelly does all the hard work. Like keeping all the facts in line, and a list of the characters, and the pre-edits. I did, however, research wood oil. And keep everything in line when panic set in over I.D. chips… XD

Honestly though, we had a great time and a few moments of stress aside, we work together pretty darn good, in my opinion. 😀

Good luck with the giveaway and thanks for commenting!

The name Oberon is perfect for a king. I didn’t expect him to be that friendly, tho. I thought he’s a ruthless ruler, turns out he has this aura of a mentor & a friend or was I decieved.

I think I gonna find it out. 😉

Thanks for coming by to Crystal’s Many Reviewers, Kel & Henley! <3

Oberon parted his lips in almost kiss-like fashion, and then sucked a breath of air between his teeth. “I hope not.”

Oberon (checks spelling once, twice, thrice to avoid crankiness ) suuuuure knows how to inspire hope and to reassure others?
Otherwise he seems to be a gentle guy (so far)?

On the other hand our sweet Eddie’s (Moonzilla, Zoomhella – that was hilarious! ) thoughts indicate that Oberon (checks spelling again very carefully) can have it his way if he wants it – one way or the other.

His whole demeanour also hints at that he is not the guy to toy with? YOu know, these quiet, calm types.

Henley I didn’t take you for “Daddy” sort. 😉 Learn something fun every day.

I couldn’t follow that at all. xD Missing some important information just before the start of this excerpt. You devilish people. All I got was Eddie is hurt/incapacitated leg wise for whatever reason. His trip, or Moonzilla’s doing. Though I get the impression his legs are improving from her tricks and not a result of them. He’s supposed to run after Kaeva (I think) for some reason at the behest of a king. And a Batman reference.

I’m sorry Henley, I can’t see how Oberson is more natural to type than Oberon. But to each their own. If it helps I’ve never been a big fan of Oberon the Faerie king. (except that one reenactment when he really held that kiss with puck while puck’s legs were wrapped rightly around his waist….oh yeah, Shakespeare at his best.) Though my favorite puck is from Gargoyles……I’m sorry I’ve gotten off topic. Moving on.

You have me intrigued with this little tease. Also, now very much looking forward to chapter 5. Cake by the ocean sounds tantalizing. xD Assuming my trivia about that song is correct. I never bothered to look it up after my friend explained it to me. 😛
