Temper (Ripples in the Status Quo #5) by R. Phoenix @RaissaPhoenix #mm #review

Only one thing can keep Ashton safe from the supernatural predators who made the world into their depraved, twisted playground after the Takeover–but it’s the one thing that would steal the last remnants of his freedom. At every turn, society confronts Reese and Ashton with the way humans are treated as mere playthings to be used and discarded. When they realize their own desires and pride have no place in the status quo, Ashton and his werewolf lover understand they’ll have to engage in the deadly games played by those in charge if they want to make a difference.

But Reese isn’t a diplomat, and Ash is only human. Together, they must decide if they’re willing to work with the devil they know in what might change everything or rely on their consciences in a world that has no place for kindness or honor… and if they’re ready to sacrifice everything along the way.

In a world ruled by supernatural beings whose moral compasses are all but broken, humans struggle to survive in the face of despair, cruelty, and hate. Through it all, there’s hope for more — hope, mercy, and love. Can the balance ever be tipped in their favor?

There is so much heartache in Temper that it is hard to read.  The violence and disregard for humans is terrifying.

Ashton learns the folly of independence.  When this happens it’s a wonder that there is anything left of his mind.  I had a hard time reading about this.  The immense strength it would take to not only live through it, but to come out of it with his mind intact is phenomenal.  I have to say that I am a fan of Ashton.

Reece has tried to make Ashton realize the true danger out there, but failed.  When he begins to suspect there is something wrong it is too late to save Ashton from his own folly.  Reece feels that he must recover and sent a strong message to his pack mates of Ashton will never be safe again.  The guilt of what’s happened is eating away at him. I have always been a fan of the underdog I can’t help but feel for Reece, he is a genuinely nice guy.

This story is moving and intense, with violent sex scenes and the utter disregard for pack bonds and humanity as a whole.  I have to say that this story is moving and addictive.  R. Phoenix has spun a dark and exciting story! I can only wait to see where she goes from here!
