Taken by the Jakhua Clan as a teen, 194 was stripped of his name, his identity, and his freewill, meticulously honed to be a ruthless, soulless killing machine, trained solely to spill blood and stop hearts. This is a role he resents with every fiber of his being, but one he embraces to gain back the precious leverage the Georgians wield as their weapon of control: his younger sister, 152.

Mzia Kostava is in shock. After fleeing her mafia family’s massacre in Georgia as a child, Mzia lives in secret, hiding from her enemies in the dark shadows of Manhattan. At age twenty-five, believing all her family is dead, word reaches Mzia that her brother Zaal is very much alive… and living with their family’s greatest enemy: the Volkov Bratva in Brooklyn.

Yearning to be reunited with her beloved Zaal, Mzia risks her safety and anonymity for the brother she had mourned since childhood. But just as she reaches Zaal’s apartment, Mzia is seized and taken captive by a strange man, who is strong, dark, and brutal… Unyielding, he demands her utter obedience as he locks her away in darkness. He is highly skilled in torture and inflicting pain, and demands to know everything about her brother Zaal and everything about her. He is a man that’ll do anything to get what he wants.

Sometimes love requires the sacrifice and betrayal of those held most dear. But is finding one’s true love worth committing the greatest sacrifice of all?addtogoodreads_zps55cd15da14Tbird_s ThoughtsTAG

Welcome to an intense story that will kidnap you from the first few pages and not let you go till the end of the book.  At this point I will state, I was very lost at the beginning, because I wasn’t aware this was a series when I started.  The action and suspense is epic right from the start, but once I went back and read the synopsis for the prior books I had a better handle of what was going on and who these characters were.  I enjoyed Ravage even without reading the whole series but I certainly plan on correcting that mistake very soon and grabbing all of the books.

The first scene introduces you to the world that Valentin and his sister Inessa are trying to survive in.  Orphans are picked and sold so they can exit one hell and enter another, but Valentin was determined to protect his sister.  When they were finally found and taken, he knew he would have to do the unthinkable in order to keep Inessa near him so he could keep her safe.  This is where he became 194, a killing machine for the wicked.  Tactics and “medical” techniques were used to make him do the torture and killing of the enemies, although this went against who he was, he was soon learning that nothing was over the line when it comes to his sister’s life.

Zoya was part of the story that I had missed because I entered the series at book 3.  She lived in a protected environment because of the “war” against her family.  When she got the shock that her brother hadn’t died in the last battle, and she not only had his address but a picture, she knew she needed to go see him.  The shock didn’t end there, her brother was engaged to the enemy family.  Confused she decided to take advantage of the “war” being over and made her way to the address she was given.  Alone and confused she stood outside, watching her brother through the window when things take a drastic turn for the worse.

I am going to stop here because as the story goes on you will see how Zoya and 194’s lives will become a web of torment, confusion and a list of other things that will keep you turning pages as fast as you can.  Their story is dark, it will break your heart, and bringing every emotion you have to the surface and make you run for the next book as fast as you can.

I highly recommend this to readers who love dark, dramatic, intense and suspenseful stories.  My only regret was I didn’t begin this series from book one so take my word for it and go grab this series, but do it only when you can actually sit and read them all at once.  I had a very difficult time putting the kindle down for real life, even for a few moments because once the author introduces you to page one, you are invested till the very end.
