Lina Riley, an inspiring leader of her software development company, is a lady of many strengths and one weakness. A skillful business negotiator, she pays the price of her success with long working hours and a bad smoking habit. It is the one battle this powerful woman just cannot seem to win.
To the world, Thomas Jett seems like the poster boy for nice, respectable guys. A talented programmer and a well-liked colleague, Jett does a good job hiding his secret. Little does anyone know about his dark, lustful side and intense domination urges. Lina has been his weakness and obsession ever since he first stepped into her office for a job interview. He also may be the right man to help her be stronger.
Thomas offers Lina a way to get over her addiction… but she’ll have to fully submit to his authority. Could a woman like Lina surrender to her desires in the hands of a much younger man? Is she strong enough to give him her submission? Does Thomas have ulterior motives? How long can they stay on the edge before someone gets hurt?
WARNING! This book is intended for mature audiences. It contains scenes of BDSM, rough language, as well as non-sexual violence. All the characters are over 18 years old. Please, read the Warning at the front part of the book before you decide to purchase it. This book is part 1 of the Unorthodox trilogy.
Be prepared, this book will leave you in a hangover for days while begging for the next book. I admit, I was getting bored in the beginning as we learned how Lina and Thomas met, the beginning of their work relationship but just as I was at the point of wondering if I wanted to finish the book, BAM the author slapped me upside the head and showed me this was vital information to have for the rest of the story. Yes this was one of those moments when I had to admit, the author really did know more than I did when it comes to what I needed and liked in a story.
Lina had proved to the world, she was capable, successful, intelligent and independent. Well she was all of those things as long as she had her cigarettes. Without them the inner witch came out and attacked anyone in her path. After two months of being a non-smoker she buckled and ended up on the fire escape with a pack of emergency cigs and a lighter that didn’t work.
Thomas shows up with his magical Zippo lighter that he uses to make women “smile” and rescues her and society from her nicotine withdraws. The author explains to us the transformation of Thomas, from the young geek who showed up for a job interview, dressed in a t’shirt and jeans with nerd glasses to this semi handsome man who has the charm of a knight in shining armor, along with a theory on how he can help Lina stop her addiction to cigs. This background on him becomes important as you watch his confidence guide the story. Unfortunately, in order for her to give the BDSM therapy a chance, she is going to have to give up her controlling ways in life and hand it over to Thomas, a man she hired and is much younger than herself.
This alone would make an interesting read, but with the knowledge of BDSM the author showed and the brilliant talent to bring in drama and massive suspense into the plot, you are about to encounter a story that will take you all over the map when it comes to emotions. I was left gasping and leaning in toward my kindle to not miss a single word, more times than I would like to admit. Let me repeat, this is NOT all about BDSM relationships, there is a dark evil lurking, waiting for his moment to enter the story.
There is so much substance in this book, it far passes just an erotic read. The author dives into the human psychology and spirit of each character and leaves us wondering about ourselves as well. If this is any indication of how this trilogy is going play out, I think we have found a serious top five series.
