The USA Today bestselling author of the Club Sin novels kicks off a deeply sensual new series by introducing readers to Micah, a man who takes what he wants—until he meets the one woman he needs.
Real estate mogul Micah Holt exerts absolute control over all aspects of his life. As a founding member of the Dominants Council that oversees San Francisco’s sex club scene, he keeps his dark side hidden away from the press, who will chase down any hint of scandal. He’s always in command of his world, careful to expose his closely guarded secrets only to those he knows he can trust. Then Allie Bennett shakes his legendary discipline. She’s beautiful, pure, untainted. But is Micah willing to sacrifice her innocence for his own selfish obsessions?
When that sexy smile makes her body burn, Allie tries with all her might to ignore it. For one thing, Micah’s her new boss. For another, he’s as complicated as he is devastatingly handsome. Still, Allie can only fight so much before she gives in to his dangerous games. She knows he’s got dark secrets. But when she discovers the true depth of his pain, Allie must decide how far she’s willing to go to light the way for love.
Bound Beneath His Pain is intended for mature audiences.
Two strong, powerful, scarred individuals with two separate secrets. Micah is a powerful business man who buys up corporations to dismantle them and keeps the top earners for his own company. Allie is a top realtor who is asked to join the ranks of Holt Enterprises. She negotiates to keep her old company going and against his better judgement, Micah agrees because of his strong attraction to the beautiful Allie.
While I found the premise to the story a little cliché (strong, smart, business man with a flair for kink falls for the sexy, strong, but naïve business woman who is new to the world of BDSM), this story and their secrets made it much more than just that. Each character had flaws, even though they presented an appearance of having it all together. And, each one had a secret they wanted to be kept hidden from the rest of the world.
About the characters – while I enjoyed Micah and his dominant personality, I did not connect or find Allie very likable. She hated money because her mother told her it was “dirty” and men with money were bad. Yes, she was frugal and lived within her means of what she made from her job, but hating people with money who worked hard to earn it and then whine about the money spent was a little too much for me. I’m not sure why this annoyed me, but it did and it’s the first time I did not enjoy a character by this author.
As for the actual story – I found it well done and about more than just the BDSM scene. Yes, Micah was a Dominant, but he gave a lot of control to Allie without thinking about it and that spoke volumes (in my mind). Allie is strong willed, but the fact that she submits to Micah, and only Micah, speaks volumes!
While I had one issue with this story, it didn’t keep me from enjoying the rest of the book. It is not one of my favorites from this author, but it is still a great read for those that enjoy this genre.
