Liam Quinn is talented, gorgeous, and one of the biggest movie stars in the world.
He’s also the only man Elissa Holt has ever truly loved.
After being out of her life for six years, he and his gorgeous fiancé are set to star in the new Broadway show Elissa is stage managing. The only trouble is, when late night rehearsals bring Elissa and Liam together, the line between what is and what could have been gets blurred, and one moment of weakness will lead to a scandal that echoes around the world.
Rayven once again took my emotions on a monster rollercoaster ride and I loved every page of it. Although Wicked Heart is the third book in the Starcrossed series, you can read it as a standalone as the focus has moved from Cassie and Ethan to Ethan’s sister, Elissa, and her second chance romance with Liam, the man who broke her heart. That said, I recommend reading them all as Bad Romeo and Broken Juliet were stellar reads as well.
Much like the first two novels in the series, the author moves from the present to the past and back again almost seamlessly. So as we watch Elissa try to steel herself against being in Liam’s presence after he deserted her six years ago, we get to see how they met, what led to their separation, and what Liam did that shattered Elissa’s heart and trust in men. I must admit that the more of the past that was revealed, the harder it was for me to understand why Elissa would even give Liam the time of day, much less worry about falling for him again – yes, what he did was that bad. That said, once the two of them were alone together, the chemistry between them is so intense that I could feel it radiating from the pages. But it wasn’t just sexual chemistry – which was scorching – but the emotional bond that formed, that instantaneous connection some people have with one another that has nothing to do with attraction. Elissa explains it perfectly in her conversation with Josh: “Like there was a stranger standing in front of you who felt like home?” So even as my heart broke with Elissa’s time and time again, even as I felt the sting of betrayal she experienced, I understood her hope for a future with Liam. Yet even as Rayven makes them earn it, I was left wondering how it would work out for much longer than I would have expected.
The supporting cast in this book was awesome! I loved Josh and Angel, and loved to hate Kent. As Elissa’s best friend, roommate, and colleague, Josh gave Elissa much needed support as she navigated the muddy waters of executing her duties as stage manager flawlessly while avoiding the landmines that working with Liam was bound to trigger. Despite of who she is to Liam, Angel was an absolutely lovely character and I really, really loved the new direction life seemed to be taking her. Kent, Angel and Liam’s agent, was a complete slime ball and I’m sorry he didn’t get the chance to experience a real-life Shakespearean demise. Wicked Heart was an excellent addition to the Starcrossed series that provided the right combination of angst, heartbreak, romance, hot sex, betrayal, humor (Elissa is a hoot; Exhibit A – Fitness Protection Program), and love. I really hope the author has more in store for the series.
NO ONE writes second chance love angst like Leisa Rayven! I absolutely adored the first book books in this series and Wicked Heart did not let me down! In this book, the heroine is Elissa, the sister of the hero from the previous books. She is a stage manager and is known as the best in the business. She is thrown into managing a show staring her ex. Her ex with a new fiancé who is also staring in the show. Things are strained and the tension can be felt for miles around, but Elissa is a professional and doesn’t let it affect her job. However, Liam is affected by seeing Lissa even though he has a new woman in his life.
The story flashes back to how Lissa and Liam met and Oh Em GEE!! THE ANGST!!! THE TENSION!!! I LOVE IT!!! So many things kept these two apart for such a considerable amount of time, so their coming together was glorious and oh so very HOT!! Need a fan to cool myself off kind of HOT!! I became so invested in these characters and their relationship that I did not want this story to ever end! They tore me apart, put me back together, and then broke my heart all over, again. The fact that we got to see why they broke up and that the reason wasn’t what it seemed made me love the author that much more. But, I also fell for Angel, Liam’s fiancé and Josh, Lissa’s best friend. I only hope that they each get their own story (or end up in one story, together).
This book works as a stand-alone, even though it is part of a series. If you love angst, then grab is and put some time aside to read it because you won’t want to put it down once you start!
