It’s no secret that Riley used to practice dark magic, but he gave it up gladly when he fell in love with Landon. But Riley has spent the last year trying to shield Landon from just how dark his past really was, desperate to keep him safe and hold on to their fragile relationship.
This was a really good short story. I was a bit worried because with the blurb I thought that we would be missing a lot about Riley’s past, but Bain-Vrba did a great job at bringing the details of Riley’s past into this story in such a way that it wasn’t like it was a total re-hash on what he had done. But instead it was all showing about what he could do and how what he had been through would help him and Landon.
Landon’s character was one that I wasn’t able to fully connect with. While he was in the story, it felt like he was not as important as Riley. Landon was a strong character, but I just couldn’t connect with him, as I said earlier.
I did love the way that Bain-Vrba drew out the suspense and drama throughout the story, but it did have a very fulfilling ending.
Overall, I would say if your looking for a quick read, then this would be the read for you.
