Trusting your ex is relative when you’re running from a killer.
A team building exercise at a remote location reignites the heat between former lovers Madeleine Smith and Nicholas Garabaldi. When team members start dying they must learn to trust again so they can outwit whoever is killing off the group one by one. Is this the “Executioner” from the indigenous Dream Time legend of the local Bilbulmun tribe? Or is someone closer to home responsible?
This was a short, but good story about lost love and finding it again under extreme circumstances. Maddie was a born leader and was reluctant about attending the bonding retreat for her new job. Things happen that change the outcome of the retreat and push her into the arms of her boss. Her boss happens to be the man who dumped her when she thought he cheated on her with another woman.
Nick pushed Maddie away because he was afraid of commitment, but has regretted it ever since. He arranged for her to end up working for his company and to attend the retreat in hopes that he could win her back by getting her alone. But, things didn’t go as planned and they are thrown together sooner than he had hoped under stressful circumstances.
I enjoyed the suspenseful part of the storyline. When the perpetrator of the events was revealed I was shocked!! No way did I suspect that person! I love how strong Maddie’s character was and how she kept Nick at arm’s length until she decided she wanted him back. I enjoyed Nick’s tenacity and the way he cared for Maddie. He was a headstrong, alpha male, but he knew when to stop pushing and when to allow Maddie space to come to terms with things. And the chemistry?!?! Holy smokes!! The pages were on FIRE!!
Overall, this is a fun, intriguing, keeps you on the edge of your seat, story that I enjoyed.
