“They made one beautiful mistake. The consequences could haunt them for life.”
“In the Line of Duty,” Book 6
From the moment the Nelson brothers took a lonely young girl from the wrong side of the tracks under their wing, Rachel Andrews loved them both with all her heart. But it was James who won her hand.
Now widowed, she s trying to pick up the pieces for her daughter s sake as well as her own, but once again loneliness is her closest friend until James s brother comes back to town. The man she secretly wishes had asked her first.
Army ammunitions expert Kyle Nelson would rather face live fire than face the raw reminder that the woman he loved chose his brother over him, but he s tired of running. And ready to step up to be the man everyone needs him to be especially the young niece he s never met.
As time runs short before Kyle ships out again, the desire Kyle and Rachel have suppressed breaks free in a fiery rush. Tempting her to reveal a secret that could give him a reason to stay or burn their love to ash.
“Warning: Contains a hot military man who will steal your panties as well as your heart.””
Kyle and his brother James were both in love with Rachel, a girl from the wrong side of the tracks. But, Kyle always stepped back so that his brother could shine. When James asked Rachel to marry him, Kyle joined the army and left to give them their space so that they could be a couple. The only time he returned was for James and Rachel’s wedding and James’ funeral. Until now.
Kyle, being the stand-up guy that he is, wants to be a part of his niece’s life. But, seeing Rachel ignites all of the feelings they both had for each other many years ago. Rachel wants him to stay, but she wants him to stay because he WANTS to. Not because of the secret she has to tell him about.
Kyle and Rachel’s story absolutely blew me away! I had so many emotions running through my mind while reading this book – something that only happens with a good story, for me! Kyle is sexy, sweet, up standing, caring, and adorable with kids. He has always put everyone else’s needs before his own. But, he takes what he wants from Rachel and she gives back just as equally. Ahh, their sex scenes were scorching HOT!!
Honestly, I was disappointed that Rachel ended up with James at all. He was such a mommy’s boy and would not stand up to his mother for his wife, something I found irritating. But, in the end, Rachel and Kyle got their HEA and all is right in the world.
The author’s writing style is really well done and something I enjoy in my books. Even though I have never read anything by her before, I will be going back and reading the rest of this series because this one was that good!
Rachel grew up on the wrong side of the tracks so to speak. When her father passed away her mother moved them to a location that would allow them to find a fresh start. This is when Rachel met the two loves of her life, brothers James and Kyle. James was the golden son with his rich parents and would do anything to stay in the family business and keep his mother happy. Kyle was not going to bend to the will of his overbearing parents. He was a free spirit, but his soul hurt when James put the ring on Rachel’s finger and pronounced Kyle’s dreams dead. After that Kyle leaves for the military to get away from a life that could have been his.
One afternoon, Kyle is back, watching Rachel and her daughter Ava in a park. At one glance their lives are about to take a turn that no one could predict. The day of reckoning is about to descend on these two. Truth will have to be uncovered if they are ever going to stand a chance and it won’t be easy to navigate since little Ava falls instantly in love with her Uncle Kyle. With shared high school friends getting married and starting careers and families, Rachel and Kyle seem to be stuck in the past with the distorted beliefs and emotions that were left unresolved.
I am new to this authors work, but I was so invested and engaged with His Reason to Stay, I am making it a mission to read more of her work. I was able to follow this story and side characters just fine for not having any experience with the series. The words were written so beautifully, the plot came to life, allowing the reader to feel the confusion, sadness and love on every page of the book. I would highly recommend His Reason to Stay and I am anxious to get more from this series as soon as possible.
