They are the lost boys.
Sons of mafia mistresses expected to keep their fathers’ sins in the shadows. The lucky ones are forgotten.
Unfortunately for Valentino “Tino” Moretti, his brother Nova was too smart to be forgotten, and too valuable to risk when he resists a life of crime. So they punished Tino instead. Forced into the cruel world of the Sicilian Mafia at twelve, Tino was broken before he was old enough to know the man he was supposed to be. Now he’s what the mafia made him.
A trained killer forbidden to love, but he did anyway. He’s loved Brianna all along.
Raw and beautiful, their romance was all consuming and far too dangerous. They were ripped apart a long time ago. It’s not until the borgata puts out a hit on her that Brianna falls back into Tino’s arms, churning up their dark past and unraveling all the Moretti brothers’ closely guarded secrets.
This isn’t the end of the story. It’s only the beginning, and it is brutal.
There’s a reason enforcers are considered too deadly to love.
“We have to be better than them. Stronger. Faster. Smarter. Lost boys have to fly.” ~Carlo Moretti, original lost boy
This was a hard book to read. Not because it’s bad – far from it. But because it’s sad. I found myself both wanting to quit reading and stop reading all at once! That takes talent!
For those of you that are fans of this series by the lovely Kele Moon, this is one of the books you’ve been waiting a long time for. We get so much of Tino and Nova’s backstory with this one, which I personally have been literally waiting years for. I had no idea it would go this deep, though.
If you’ve read “The Slayer” then you probably remember at the end Brianna and Carina show up to see Tino. Well, this book picks up right there but instead of concentrating on the story from that point forward you get backstory galore. I’ve heard a few people talk about this and I don’t think that it will spoil anything to tell you that this is not a cliffhanger ending, really. It’s more of a “you can’t go forward without going back” kind of thing. Even though this book is set mostly in the past, it moves the entire story arc forward by leaps and bounds. This book had to happen in order for the next book to. And I can’t friggin wait for the next book. As Tino would say, “Madonn’!”
The bottom line is this: If you’re a fan of this series, you have to read this book immediately. Then we all need to collectively get together and politely ask Kele to get us the next book – pronto. This book will make you laugh, even make you cry a little and also probably make you fall in love with Tino and Nova even more. 5 stars.
