Sometimes love finds you in the darkest places.
Magdalay Rousseau is having a bad day. She can’t find the charging cable to her laptop, and when she goes into her husband’s office to look for it, she discovers he’s been cheating on her. She decides to hire a private investigator to dig into her husband’s secrets, but what the detective discovers about her turns her world upside-down.
Carter Zusak is a private detective—and a cat shifter. When a new client shows up, he’s almost certain she’s a flake. What kind of woman writes romance novels and owns a shop selling supplies for witches? He’s sure she’s got a bat or two loose in her belfry—until he delves deeper into her case. No one in her life is what they seem, and Magdalay has just put herself in danger more insidious than he ever imagined. Something about this witch sets his heart on fire. But he’ll have to figure out a way to save her before they both get burned…
For such a short novella, Texas Twister is a full story. There are shifters, witches, serial killers that make this story full of suspense and mystery along with the paranormal and fantasy aspects. Magdalay thinks her husband is cheating on her. She hires a PI to find out. While that sounds like your everyday mystery, it is not. Magdalay is a witch. The PI, Carter, is a shifter who can shift into different cat forms. He is also an ex-cop with a soft spot for victims of cheaters. Even though he does not care for witches, he can’t help but feel very protective of Magdalay.
I really liked the character of Carter. He is fierce and protective, but gentle and sweet at the same time. I love that he could shift into different forms of cat and not just one version. As for Magdalay, she started out very annoying and weak. I prefer a heroine that is strong and kick ass, so she annoyed me for most of the story. But, she does come around and by the end of the book I found myself actually liking her. Not loving her, though. I did enjoy her lack of control over her powers – it was my favorite part of her.
Overall, this is a fun, cute, suspenseful, mysterious, fantasy story that I enjoyed reading.
