The Temple of Power, college for young gods and goddesses to learn how to use more than just their power.  Marduk is happy to start, he is excited to be away from home and around the elder Gods.  He finds himself drawn in to the Order, a secret sect run by older gods, where they trick young virgin gods into their violent, abusive power with no way out.  Marduk gets so depressed he wishes for any way out including death, but gods don’t die they heal, so day after day that’s what he has to look forward to.

Akad is the son of a higher god, he is there with his father.  He is drawn to Marduk, but worried what his father will do if he finds out.  They meet in secret and a love affair begins.  Marduk falls deeply in love, but he sees sides of Akad that seem polar opposite to the man’s personality.  Akad is quiet and shy, yet he if forceful and dominate when the are intimate.   Marduk is given an order to bring his lover to the order as the new pledge, slave.  Marduk knows what this means for Akad, and he is willing to do what ever it takes to spare his love the agony of the order.

Won’t  go any further, don’t want to spoil the book.  There is a lot of violent rape scenes, violence and desolation of the mind.  They are needed I think to be able to understand why the young gods act the way they do.  While there is some repetitive parts towards the middle of the book there is a reason for it. At first didn’t understand it was moving and then just seemed to stop.  But it was building to the next series of events.  Looking back it makes perfect sense to have that time there.  Marduk was adapting to his new circumstances.

Akad is a strong god that has been raised with brutal guild lines, his father is a higher god. He is trying to make sure no one takes advantage of his son.  Akad doesn’t understand this but learns very young to hide is emotions from his father and anyone else.  This causes problems to because he doesn’t know how to let anyone in.  When he let’s Marduk inside his shields something happens to make him think that all Marduk was using him.  By the time he finds out the truth it is almost to late.
