The Death Mask

Young and beautiful Amber had a simple wish; she only wanted to meet her soul mate, fall in love, get married and live happily ever after. Lucky for Amber, she has a special gift which makes everything she wishes for come true.

But having this dream come true was tagged with a price. Her husband, Michael, had a death mask made of his late wife, Linsey. It was developed into a statue head, painted to replicate Linsey’s coloring and included her long, beautiful hair. Now a mystical relic that grants Michael and his disabled daughter, Paulette, the power of clairvoyance, the thing torments Amber throughout the years of her marriage.

But maybe Linsey has good reason. Maybe her family needs to be warned of the dangerous newcomer, Amber.addtogoodreads_zps55cd15da16 Kim Talks TomesTAG

The Dickly family has more than their share of tragedies. At a young age, their daughter, Paulette, was in a horrible accident that left her paralyzed from the neck down and unable to speak.  A few years, later, Linsey Dickly falls ill and passes away at a young age from an incurable autoimmune disease. Michael Dickly makes a Death Mask of his late wife, even though she said she didn’t want one. Michael has tea with the mask, sits it at the dinner table, and talks to it every night.

Enter Amber. She is a young woman who has a special power – she gets everything she wants by wishing for it. She has wished for a man to love and believes that Michael is that man. She attends the funeral and then visits the Dickly home the next day with dinner. Michael hires her to care for his daughter while he works. Amber realizes this is the perfect opportunity to get closer to Michael and eventually become the next Mrs. Dickly. But, things don’t always go as planned.

The author tells this morbid tale in such a way that I could not help but feel pulled into the story. He has a unique way of narrating the story, which I found interesting. His character building is amazing! Michael’s obsession with is dead wife’s mask was morbid, but intriguing. Paulette plays an important part of the story, even though she can’t communicate with words. It really is a captivating tale that could have gone wrong, but Mr. Raimbault pulled it off and did so very well! Definitely grab this one if you enjoy a good mysterious and suspenseful tale.
