A Men of Myth Story
Brett Wright and Finn de Morisco come from vastly different worlds. Disowned by his family for being gay, Brett builds both a life on his own terms and walls around his heart. But nothing can prepare him for the evil that stalks him in the night or from discovering the dark secrets of his heritage.
The youngest of a doting family, Finn lives a sheltered life that allows him to trust easily and makes him quick to jump to the rescue. While using his knowledge of the supernatural world to help Brett uncover the truth of his ancestry, Finn learns neither his magical life nor falling in love is as simple and risk-free as he believed.
Brett is on a journey of self-discovery after being rejected by his grandparents. He feels self-loathing and lacks confidence as a young man in the prime of his life. When he meets Finn, his life turns upside down in a way he never thought could. Brett needs to decide whether to put his heart on the line or keep it close so he doesn’t get hurt. Brett, also, gets thrown into a world he couldn’t imaging, learning more about himself than he thought possible.
There is a lot to like about his Urban Fantasy story. The world is well developed and the characters are interesting. Finn is a warlock, but we aren’t sure exactly what Brett is. Warlock? Demon? Something more magical? There are a host of different paranormal characters throughout the entire story that make it interesting and fun. However, there are a few things that I did not like about this book, too. The flow didn’t work well. The changing POV could have worked, had they flowed together in a smooth way. Instead, it all seemed like it was thrown together. Also, the story dragged in some spots and couldn’t hold my full attention. But, it eventually picked up and was easier to read with interest.
While I enjoyed a lot about this story and the characters, the few things that distracted me were enough to pull me out the right mindset to enjoy this book, fully. With a few tweaks, the next book in the series has the potential to be great.
