Welcome to a world few people know. A world where the hottest bedroom desires become a reality and where good girls like Victoria “Tiny” Corielli shed their sweetness for carnal, bad-girl pleasures.
Victoria nurses her mother through cancer treatments and works long hours as a New York City bike courier to pay for the roof over their heads. When a suspiciously high-paying delivery job thrusts her into the arms of impossibly attractive businessman Ian Kerr, Victoria is sorely tempted to enjoy his attentions and his chiseled body, if only to forget her responsibilities for a while…no matter the cost.
Kerr seems to have it all: money, power, and charisma to spare. What he doesn’t have: revenge on an old nemesis, but he intends to get it. Kerr is prepared to cast innocent Victoria as the lure in his vengeful plot. Yet the more they explore midtown Manhattan—and each other—the more she means to Ian. Will it be too late for him to stop the dangerous plan he’s already put into motion?
Victoria “Tiny” Corielli has a lot on her plate. She’ll do anything to take care of her sick mother. A mother battling cancer, again. Anything, including working for her former step brother on the side. He is a jerk, but that doesn’t stop Tiny from wanting to do whatever it takes to take the burden from her mother.
Ian Kerr is bent on revenge. He offers Tiny a job as part of that revenge, but doesn’t expect to fall for the sexy courier. Now, all he wants to do is protect Tiny and her mother and help take some of the burden away from HER for a change.
Nothing makes me happier than a kick ass heroine in a good story. Tiny is that and so much more! She is caring, vulnerable, but doesn’t let her vulnerability run her life. She’ll do anything to help and protect her mother, even if that means doing sketchy things for her asshole step brother. But, she won’t take crap from anyone. LOVE THAT! Then there is Ian. He is everything any girl could want in a book boyfriend – strong, caring, rich, but damaged. He can have anything he wants and what he wants is revenge….until Tiny comes along. Then, all he wants is her. She becomes his focus. <<Swoon>>
While some of the story is predictable, that doesn’t make this a bad story. On the contrary, it is everything I enjoy about a good story with strong characters, a vulnerability, and hot, steamy, sex! The dialogue was witty and sarcastic in a fun way. It kept the story moving and balanced the angst.
I can’t wait to dive into the second book in this series and see what happens, next!
In their secret world, unspoken wishes for pleasure come true…and the allure of glamour and passion can easily disguise a deadly secret.
After a tumultuous riches-to-rags childhood, Ian Kerr decided to spend his life focused on making money—and it’s paid off. Then he meets sassy, smart-mouthed bike messenger Victoria “Tiny” Corielli, and he wants nothing more than to introduce her to his world of elite luxury…and enticing desire. But a businessman as ruthless as Ian always has enemies lurking in the shadows—the kind of enemies who violently claimed his parents and are willing to use Victoria as a pawn in their deadly game.
Plucked from her lowly walk-up apartment and financial struggles into a glittering world of wealth and privilege, Victoria is almost overwhelmed…and almost delirious with insatiable desire for Ian. Then sensuality turns to serious peril as Ian’s rivals—and the people Victoria thought she could trust—close in, putting her in jeopardy. Torn between the temptation of carnal passion and the terror of unfathomable danger, she discovers that the dark side of suddenly having it all is knowing you could lose everything.
Taking Control picks up right where Losing Control left off. Ian convinces Tiny that she can trust him, but now he has to protect her former step father and his shady business. She is much more vulnerable in this story now that she is mourning the loss of her beloved mother. Ian blames Richard Howe for the deaths of his father and then his mother and will do what it takes to get his revenge.
Victoria is now a target because of Ian. She hates that she has to have bodyguards to keep her safe and, also, hates the difference in financial stability between the two of them. She has trouble trusting Ian to keep her safe – including her heart. But, she sees how much he does for her and equates that with his love for her.
The storyline is a lot more likable in this book. While the relationship grows, the angst level is kept to a minimum. Also, the way the author wrapped up the story of Tiny and Ian left me feeling good about the end and ready to move on to a new couple. Not many authors can do that. As for the sex scenes – YUM! They’re steamy without being too much, yet they are in there and bring the perfect amount of heat between these two.
I will say that the changing POV is something I do not normally enjoy, but it was done well within this story and I wasn’t bothered by it. You do have to read the first book to enjoy this story, but they are both well worth the time.
