Thorn is a Dragon King who has been tasked with taking out the Dark Fae plaguing Edinburgh. The Dark Fae are out in full force in an effort to draw the Dragon Kings into the open in order to expose them to the public. Thorn and the other Kings have to tread carefully, protecting humans without letting them know that the Fae and Dragons exist.

It’s a difficult task. Most humans can’t see through the thick fog of confusion and lust wielded by the Dark Fae. Only a few are able to stand against the power, particularly the human females who are destined to become the mate of a Dragon King. When Thorn comes across a human with that ability following the dangerous Fae he goes out of his way to protect her but what he doesn’t realize is that no matter how many times he warns her she won’t give up on her plan to exact revenge upon the Dark Fae who callously murdered her friend Christina. Lexi was the only witness who saw the deadly man with red eyes take her friend’s life and she feels it’s her duty to find her friends killer but when a handsome warrior swoops in to save her Lexi quickly discovers that her quest is far more dangerous than she could have imagined. She’s in the midst of an ongoing war between good and evil and the side of good consists of beings with the ability to shift into dragons.

Lexi and Thorn are on fire, literally and figuratively. The passion and connection between them is intense. I love Lexi’s attitude and determination. She has spunk and doesn’t hold back even when it comes to confronting Thorn. I did find it hilarious how during their first few meetings she stabbed him multiple times. All I could picture was Thorn’s exasperated facial expression and it made me laugh. It was nice to see Thorn’s emotional soft side play out and to see him break down the wall of hardened warrior. Their romance is probably one of my favorites so far in the series. As far as Ulrik goes I do think his developing relationship with the Dark Fae Muriel is interesting. There is something there between those two besides lust and a mutual disdain for Taraeth and Mikkel.

Rhi, my poor Rhi, I really can’t wait to see her become who she’s meant to be. The introduction of the Reapers has added a mysterious plot twist to her story and I hope we get a book just centered on her and perhaps Con will finally wake up and admit she’s his ONE!

Grant does a great job of creating charismatic characters. She has a knack for blurring the lines between good and evil with characters like Ulrik and Balladyn who keep you guessing and wondering just what side they will ultimately end up on at the end.
