An Obsession with Vengeance (Wanted Men #3) by Nancy Haviland

An Obsession with Vengeance

Maksim Kirov is a mobster who gets what he wants, both at his posh gentleman’s club in Hell’s Kitchen and in the bedroom. Sexy, dangerous, and obsessed with control, he’s risen through the ranks to become a highly respected leader in the tight-knit Tarasov crime syndicate. He rules with an iron fist…until he meets Sydney Martin.

The Australian-born Sydney is determined to refuse Maks’s advances, despite their electrifying chemistry. The owner of a neighboring nightclub, Sydney rules her own domain. But when a deal with a Mexican drug cartel goes terribly wrong, she has no choice but to turn to Maksim and the Tarasov organization for protection. Could giving in to their intense attraction be what saves both Maks and Sydney? Or will their all-consuming passion—and her shocking secret—destroy their lives?

An Obsession with Vengeance is a romantic suspense about Maksim, the adopted son of a New York Russian Mafia head, and Sydney, an Australian with a son that moves into the neighborhood. It features a lot of suspense and intrigue when Sydney asks for help from the Mafioso. The chemistry and sexual tension between the pair is well written, as is the rest of the action within the story. The story progresses quickly and held my attention from start to finish. I enjoyed the banter between Maks and Sydney as well as Maksim’s friends who help them all out. As the third in a series, I did not feel like I was left out of the loop or missing information in order to understand this book.

While the story was well written and the characters well developed, I did not like Maksim at all. He was arrogant, sleazy, and a true stereotypical Mafioso, which is what makes a story worth reading. I hated how he slept with other women to take his mind off of Sydney (total sleaze ball move), but it was also a move that made him realistic. Overall, this is a good, suspenseful, story worth the reading time.
