Star Crossed (Battered Hearts #2) by Kele Moon

Star Crossed

Heavyweight MMA fighter, Romeo Wellings comes from the hard streets of New York where his family ties to the mafia cause him nothing but pain. His life takes a surprising detour when he crosses paths with the twin sister of his long time enemy. After a steamy one-night stand, he faces the fight of his life, but it’s not in the cage. The secret relationship that blooms between Romeo and his real life Juliet has him battling his family and a dark past rather than let her go.

The only lawyer in her hometown of Garnet, Jules Conner is also a volunteer Sheriff’s deputy and co-owner of a successful MMA training center. Strong and dependable, Jules is always there for those who need her. Until one forbidden night in Las Vegas with Romeo leaves her feeling so alive she can’t stop reaching out to the sexy, bad boy of MMA, even knowing the forbidden love affair could jeopardize everything.

As the tide rises against them and the people they love work at keeping them apart, Romeo and Jules hold onto a dream for a better life together and vow to go down fighting rather than accept a tragic ending. addtogoodreads_zps55cd15da16 Kim Talks TomesTAG

Romeo, aka Wellings, just lost one of the biggest UFC fights to Clay “Powerhouse” Powers in Las Vegas. After saving Clay’s girl from her crazy ex-husband, he runs into Clay’s lawyer and is awed by her hotness. Not only is she tall, strong, tall, and gorgeous, but her full first name is Juliet. It must be destiny. Juliet and her twin brother grew up with Clay, so she offers to take Romeo to dinner to thank him for saving Melody. Romeo agrees and it leads to a wonderful night of passion between the two. That turns into a few months of keeping in contact with him until Romeo moves to her town to train with Clay.

Jules’ twin brother, Wyatt, is the town sheriff and is very protective of his sister. Unfortunately, Romeo’s brothers have a dad who is involved in the mob. He tried to keep them away, but their father brought them into that world after their mother died. Romeo has to do their bidding or risk being hurt, killed, or something happening to his brothers. This creates so much angst and turmoil between Jules and Romeo and it’s hard to understand how they can be together with such crappy circumstances.

I have to say that I enjoyed this story more than the first one in this series. The tension, angst, and turmoil was so prevalent that I couldn’t help for feel for these characters. I didn’t really like Romeo in the beginning, but my mind changed as the story went on and I grew to love him so much. This pair really were star crossed lovers from such different families who couldn’t be together for reasons beyond their control. I LOVED it! Definitely read the first book from this series to more understand the characters, but they are well worth the time!
