Ashe Barker, In the Eyes of the Law

In the Eyes of the Law is my story in the Over the Knee anthology, a tale of two people finding each other again after they somehow lost sight of what was important. It’s amazing how well a decent spanking can refocus our thinking, and this is just what Libby discovers when she runs into her ex-husband whilst having a spot of bother at the shops.

Libby is an accidental shoplifter. She got distracted, forgot she had the bottle of perfume in her hand, and fell foul of the store detectives as she tried to leave the store. Instead of taking her chances with the police, she agrees to submit to a spanking in the office of the Head of Security at the shopping mall – who happens to be her ex-husband. She is delighted to discover that Jake has lost none of his touch in the time they’ve been apart.

If this solution were offered more widely I am sure our courts would be a lot less clogged up. Think of all the public money we could save. Maybe I should write to the government suggesting it.

No? Okay then, back to the anthology. The thing I most enjoy about short stories, whether reading or writing them, is that the pace is much faster. We dive straight in at the deep end, getting to know the main characters, and it’s on with the action.

I find this to be a completely a different style of writing. We have to get our point across fast, first time. That can be challenging, but like a decent spanking, the discipline it imposes does tend to focus the mind and get the creative juices flowing. I usually writer longer length novels, but I enjoy the freedom offered by a short, snappy story with a crisp plot and exciting characters. I hope In the Eyes of the Law hits the spot. I think it does.

So do the rest of the Over the Knee stories. I’ve loved working with some of my favourite authors at Totally Bound, and this collection is hot, hot, hot. All the stories are different, but if spanking’s your thing, you’ll be in your element.

‘In the Eyes of the Law’ by Ashe Barker

She’s still his wife, in the eyes of the law. But is she still his submissive? His to spank?

A momentary lapse of concentration places Libby Novak on the wrong side of the law. A criminal conviction could lose her her job. How much worse could this get?

‘Spicing it Up’ by Lily Harlem

Heat from a spanking ensures Cassandra simmers with pleasure in a way she never would have imagined.

Cassandra lives by a set of rules that both thrill and complete her. Having Master Raif attend her every need in and out of the bedroom is perfection. But when he announces an erotic new way to spice up their after-dinner party she can’t help having a few nerves. Really? That? There? And would it feel good?

‘Kneel for You’ by Katy Swann

Should she agree to be spanked?  Just the once? It would all be in the name of research, of course…

When journalist Kirsten Anderson is told by her boss to write an article about BDSM, she’s extremely reluctant.  She tries to get out of it by claiming she doesn’t know anything about BDSM, but that isn’t strictly true. None of her colleagues know about her kinky past and she has no intention of letting them find out, but she’s in no position to turn the assignment down either.

‘Silk and Decadence’ by Wendi Zwaduk

There is always fun in the club, but taking the fun outside and into life might be exactly what’s needed for a lifetime of passion.

Sadie never claimed to be a good girl. She loves to be at Push, a local dance and BDSM club, but she longs for more—especially with Master E. The blond-haired man with the sparkling brown eyes is everything she wants in a Dom. Too bad he’s also her boss at Delight Tonight.

‘Properly, or Not at All’ by Lucy Felthouse

How will a husband and wife cope when they’re told one of their favourite kinky pastimes is temporarily off the menu?

Tristan and Jayme are not only devoted husband and wife, they are also Dominant and submissive, with a particular penchant for spanking. They’ve been playing delicious kinky games for the fifteen years they’ve been together and couldn’t be happier.

‘A Private Education’ by Dolly Watt

Archivist Emma Willoughby learns a lesson in kinky lust when she’s invited to assess the ninth Earl of Folchester’s private library.

When Emma y is invited to assess the private library of Lord Leopold Denby-Peel, she isn’t expecting to find Victorian spanking diaries in his leather-bound collection. Nor is she expecting the earl to be quite so young and handsome. As she explores the pages of his nineteenth century erotica, Emma finds herself craving to receive chastisements comparable to those depicted.

Excerpt from Over the Knee: In the Eyes of the Law:

“Why do you want me to spank you, Libby?”

I start to wring my hands, a nervous habit of mine. I stop myself, deliberately lacing my fingers together to keep them still. I meet his steady gaze and do my best to scratch together an answer.

“I don’t know. Lots of reasons. Because I miss it, and no one else does it like you do.”

He lifts one eyebrow. He appears amused. Almost. “You’ve tried others, then?”

I nod. “Two. It wasn’t good.”

“I see. So this, here, today, would be…for old times’ sake? Because you’re feeling contrite and maybe a little horny.”

“I’m not asking you to fuck me.”

“Not yet. But you will. We both know that when your knickers are off and you’re over my knee, your bottom bared and thoroughly spanked, you’ll beg me to fuck you. You always do.”

“You’re being very crude, Josh.”

“You know the rules about speaking plainly on these occasions. So, am I wrong? And if I’m about to punish you, it’s ‘Sir’.”

I pause for several seconds before shaking my head. “You’re not wrong. So you’ll do it then? Sir?”

He smiles, but it’s a grin lacking in warmth. It is sensual, though, dripping with sexy promise. “Take off your jacket and hang it on the back of the door. Then remove your underwear.”

No further answer is required. Butterflies take flight in my stomach. Gleeful anticipation of the sensuality to come in the next few minutes, guilt at the forbidden pleasure and fear of discovery, are all at war within me. “What if someone comes in?”

He leans back in his seat and starts to unbuckle his belt. “No one comes in here without my permission. You have a count of five, Libby. Jacket, underwear then you lay yourself across my lap and raise your skirt. Alternatively, if you prefer, you can just leave and we’ll say no more about any of this.”

I’m not leaving. No way am I going anywhere yet.

“You intend to use your belt?”

“I do. You need something quite…intense, I think, otherwise you wouldn’t be asking me for this. Would you agree?”

About Ashe Barker:

Until 2010, Ashe was a director of a regeneration company before deciding there had to be more to life and leaving to pursue a lifetime goal of self-employment.

Ashe has been an avid reader of women’s fiction for many years—erotic, historical, contemporary, fantasy, romance—you name it, as long as it’s written by women, for women. Now, at last in control of her own time and working from her home in rural West Yorkshire, she has been able to realise her dream of writing erotic romance herself.

She draws on settings and anecdotes from her previous and current experience to lend colour, detail and realism to her plots and characters, but her stories of love, challenge, resilience and compassion are the conjurings of her own imagination. She loves to craft strong, enigmatic men and bright, sassy women to give them a hard time—in every sense of the word.

When she’s not writing, Ashe’s time is divided between her role as resident taxi driver for her teenage daughter, and caring for a menagerie of dogs, cats, rabbits, tortoises and a hamster.
