Throughout history, myths and legends of extraordinary creatures have been told and retold. Fantastic tales of demons and banshees, gryphons and dragons, and of course, magic. Stories that every child grows to learn are nothing more than fantasy…or are they?
Beyond the world you see lies a hidden realm, the Mythrian Realm, inhabited by all of the creatures you’ve been told are mere fiction. Only one thing lies between humans and the truth: the Nexus. A magical barrier erected millennia ago to separate the two realms, it has stood the test of time. Until now.
For Mythrian Sha Phoenix, magic is nothing new. But when she stumbles upon a portal on the verge of collapse, her fate will forever change. Pulled through the portal into the Human Realm, she lands in the middle of Detective Connor Flynn’s brutal murder scene. Soon it is obvious someone is using blood magic to try to bring down the Nexus. Together, Connor and Sha must work to unravel the secrets before the barrier falls and the realms collide.
The Nexus is breaking and all hell is about to unleash…literally.
What a wonderfully created world within the pages of this book! As the first in a series, Breaking the Nexus is full of creative world building and a lot of backstory told. Sha is a sentinel in charge of guarding the portal between the human realm and her realm, the Mythrian realm. However, there is a crack in the portal and she is thrown into the human world right in the middle of a murder scene! It is there that she meets Detective Connor. They both sense that the other is familiar – she remembers feeling him at the scene of the portal break and he remember dreaming about her trying to save something with a bunch of “monsters” surrounding her. Together, they both need to figure out how the break happened and how she can get back to her own realm where she belongs.
Along the way, these two develop some very intense feelings for each other. I really loved their pairing and the interaction between the two. Connor is a strong, alpha, manly man. But, he also has a sense of honor and duty to protect others. Sha is sensual, but funny! She is my favorite out of the characters with her magic, witty humor, and thoughtfulness. I love how protective Connor is of Sha with all the danger surrounding them. Not only do they have to deal with the mythical and fantasy part, but the murder scene was committed by a serial killer! That’s a lot to deal with!
I highly recommend this Urban Fantasy/Paranormal Suspense to anyone that loves this genre. You won’t be disappointed by this creative and fun story!
