History isn’t always what it seems.
With the battle of Egypt behind them, Alec and Cronin are enjoying the thrill of new love. Though fate doesn’t wait long before throwing them back into the world of weird.
They know Alec’s blood is special, though its true purpose still eludes them. And given Alec’s inability to be changed into a vampire, Cronin is free to drink from him at will. But the ramifications of drinking such powerful blood starts a ripple effect.
With the help of Jorge, a disturbing vampire-child with the gift of foresight, Alec and Cronin face a new kind of war. This time their investigations lead them to the borders of China and Mongolia—but it’s not what lies in the pits beneath that worries Alec.
It’s the creator behind it all.
After I read part one of Cronin’s Key, I quickly placed the series at the top of my favorite list so I was anticipating reading part two of the story but in the back of my mind I did worry that the second book might not live up to the expectations I had built up. Cronin’s Key II not only lived up to the expectations, the story had me falling in love all over again with the world Walker has created and the wonderful characters she has introduced us to. I’ve just finished the last paragraph of the book and I’m still beaming and wiping away tears.
Alec’s blood is special and he has a purpose, a destiny he’s meant to fulfill. What that destiny is no one is sure of. All they know is that Alec’s blood is what allowed them to destroy Keket in Egypt and take down the vampires she had resurrected. Now that the battle is over Alec and Cronin are enjoying some alone time but Alec is getting a little antsy being holed up in Cronin’s apartment so Cronin sweeps him off to a club in London. Their night out quickly takes a turn. Dark rumors, unusual vampire movements in Russia, and news stories of people going missing in China has Cronin and the other vampire leaders worried that something is going on, something that may cause danger to vampires, humans and Alec. They reach out to a powerful seer in Bolivia to help them gain some perspective and what they learn will have them once again fighting a dangerous foe but there will be much more on the line this time. Alec’s destiny will come into question and they will all learn just what his purpose is and how exactly he’s Cronin’s Key.
Walker takes urban paranormal romance and mixes it with intense levels of action, interesting mythology, touches of history and loads of intrigue. The characters are heart warming, interesting and fun to follow. The chemistry between each of the characters builds a connection that is gripping and captivating. It’s an intoxicating ride and I will be waiting enthusiastically for book three. I’m still hoping that at some point Walker writes a set of novellas focusing on Jodis and Eiji. I would love to read the entire story of how they first met. Also I’m still waiting for Alec to teach Eiji how to drive!
