#Spank of the Day: Through the Library Door 2

Library Door Thianna D

Through the Library Door“Deep within the library there are secrets untold, hidden within the pages of the books it protects. Some say it is old magic, some say it is a curse, but they all say that once a generation, the door will open and the one who enters will live out the story in one of its novels.”

18 year old Landria expects to spend a dull summer at her aunt and uncle’s house. That is until she stumbles upon a dusty, unused library and finds her way into the pages of an erotic novel. Attacked within moments of entering the story, she is rescued by the hero, Lord Nicholas Waring, who intrigues her more than she wishes. Once she finds herself back home she cannot forget him. When he follows her into her world and they fall in love, will they be forced apart by the words already written or can they rewrite their story?

I absolutely loved it! I actually read book two in the Markham Library series first and was taken back to the fanciful notions of my childhood when I wished I could enter my favorite books. Having Thianna D. give “life” to my childhood notions and turn them into adult fantasies with her talent for writing erotica pretty much insured that Eclipse of Her Heart would become a favorite of mine. So when the opportunity came up to review Through the Library Door I couldn’t say yes fast enough. I am pleased to report that I was not disappointed one teeny tiny bit.

Having read book two first I was already aware of how Through the Library Door ended. But this mattered not because ultimately I am in the read for the journey and what a journey Landria’s story proved to be. Her first encounter with the magic of the library was quite horrific and I really did not see how she was going to survive the night unsullied. Even knowing that the events are playing out in a book within a book, I was still surprised with how fortuitous Lord Waring’s arrival was because until the moment he entered the scene it did not seem likely that Landria’s hero-to-be would save her. But that was not as surprising as her disappearing act – even having read book two already I was surprised by just how much magic the library seems to hold. Because it’s in the blurb I’m not spoiling anything by saying that Lord Waring’s entry into Landria’s world was when the real fun began. I enjoyed the ways in which he learned how their world’s differed (even if he didn’t believe he was a fictional character), with the discovery of the joys of showering being one of my favorites. Obviously learning that sexual attitudes differed greatly led to some very erotic scenes, especially when they discovered that Landria had similar sexual proclivities. HOT!

I think the aspect of the book that surprised me most was Geoffery’s involvement in the storyline and in helping Landria. I had forgotten a fact about Geoffery that I had learned in Eclipse of Her Heart and liked that I found out more about him in Through the Library Door – which of course makes me hope that the author has plans to release his book sooner rather than later. I appreciated that Geoffery’s circumstances gave him a unique understanding of what Landria was feeling after her separation from Lord Waring and his willingness to help insure her happiness surprised me. Although, his “dowry” for Landria was far more surprising…lol. Needless to say, I cannot wait to read Through the Library Door again as well as Eclipse of Her Heart and can only hope that I’ll be able to read straight through to the third book of the series (HINT! HINT!).

“What happened in that room, Landria?” Her aunt’s normal calm exterior seemed to be missing. In its place was a firm eagerness that bothered her.

“Uh…” How could she explain without being told she was crazy?

“Did you find the door?”

The words surprised her and she gazed open-mouthed at her aunt. Jennifer laughed without humor. “You are not the only one, my dear. This old manor has a lot of strange stories attached to it. One of them says that deep within the library there are secrets untold, hidden within the pages of the books it protects. Some say it is old magic, some say it is a curse, but they all say that once a generation, the door will open and the one who enters will live out a fantasy in one of the novels.”

Something about the wistful expression on her face made Landria ask, “Did it open for you?”

Shaking her head, Jennifer put down her potting supplies and joined her niece on the porch. “Peter’s uncle owned this place and gifted it to your uncle when he died. He only told me once, but he found the door when he was but ten years old.”

“Ten!” she gasped, horrified for a ten-year-old to come upon the scene she had experienced.

“He was thrust into a world with dragons and witches, werewolves and demons. Peter said that he was sure he would die there and how he got back he does not know, but from that day on, he stopped reading fantasy books. Living one’s fantasy is far more terrifying than reality, he always tells me. Did you go into the same fantasy?” Jennifer asked hesitantly after a moment’s silence.

Landria shook her head. “No, mine was more… erotic.”

“Oh, my. You lived out an erotic novel?” Jennifer’s eyes were alight with interest. “Of course, at your age, it was probably shocking, but oh, how I would love that.”

“No!” Landria yelled, grabbing her arm. “No, Aunt Jennifer. Don’t even wish for it, please!” The thought of her poor Aunt Jennifer subjected to the whims of those men terrified her to her toes.

Watching her for a few minutes, her aunt finally nodded. “No worries, anyway. The door won’t reopen for another generation. Not that I wouldn’t mind living out my favorite novel.”

Relieved, Landria snickered and nudged her. “What erotic novel is your favorite?” Something about her easy-going aunt reading dirty books amused her.

Grinning, Jennifer looked over her shoulder and around to make sure nobody could be listening. “Well, it is a story I found in that very library. It is the story of an Earl who is subjected to the whims of society. He must live by those rules as he was brought up to do. But he has a cousin, an illegitimate cousin who is set to inherit his title when he dies if he doesn’t beget an heir. Well,” her voice dropped as she got into telling the story. “His mother is hell-bent on getting him married off at the same time his cousin is set on making sure that doesn’t happen. He leaves London the night his mother has planned to get him engaged and rushes home, crashing in on his cousin and his ruffian friends using a poor prostitute they got from a local madam. Only…” her eyes began to twinkle. “The girl was not a prostitute! She was kidnapped and forced into it! Lord Waring saves her and hides her from his cousin and the madam who wants her back. They fall in love,” she sighed wistfully “and he finds out she is the daughter of another nobleman who died a year previous. They get married and live happily ever after…” Her wistful look left and a strange grin covered her face. “Well, as happy as a couple can live where the husband likes to spank and whip his wife. Hmmm?” She laughed and sat back, her eyes glazed over as if remembering some scene.

Blinking, Landria looked at her aunt and then to the flowers she had been potting. It couldn’t be. Just because it sounded like the scene she had been in. It just couldn’t be. Things like that did not really happen. There was no way she was caught up in an erotic novel.

Thianna likes to say she’s eclectic, fun, and just a bit naughty. And not just in her personal life. A writer of romance with a side of spice, she enjoys a wonderful tale that combines romance, strong characters, humor, and an intriguing plot. Oh, and of course, all the little salacious bits that pop up in her works as well. While her writing has mostly dealt with BDSM and DD relationships in the past, she is also a major fan of paranormal and is vastly excited about a new series she has coming out called Drakyl Ranch.

A resident of the Pacific Northwest part of the U.S., she would prefer to be overrun by the beauty of the Rocky Mountains. One day, she’ll get back to the most beautiful mountains in the world…at least in her opinion.

Creator of and acquisition editor for the Corbin’s Bend spanking romance series, she wants to know: Who else wants to be safe, secure, and spanked in Colorado?

M/F romance is under the name Thianna D. and M/M romance is under the name Thianna Durston.
