There are a lot of books in this series –but this is the first one I’ve read. I love fantasy. Unfortunately, this book was a little lackluster for me. Laith was a good character, strong and opinionated. Iona seemed to be the typical female in most new romance novels, the kind of heroine
others love and grates on my every last nerve.

That said, the book got into more than 2 points of view, which is tricky and can throw the reader off far too easily. It has three main plot lines that interweave and all rely upon each other to make it through. (Iona’s family’s promise to protect the border, Iona and Laith, and the enemy set to strike). For as long of a book as it was, that worked.

I wanted to like it, and it wasn’t that I disliked it. I just found it blah. However, if you enjoy fantasy romance, I’d say give it a try. After all, many people love this series.
