What impressed me most about Passion’s Dream is that despite being interrupted what felt like a hundred times while I was reading it, I was drawn right back into the story after reading just a few sentences each time I was able to return to my Kindle. The connection between Clay and Leah was so strong that I couldn’t help but feel the sparks between them. Of course, I knew this meant that the sex between them would be intense, so I was even more motivated to get back in the thick of it. And Ms. Shelton did not disappoint on any account.
I enjoyed the flashback scene of Leah and Clay’s first meeting. There was an obvious connection between the two, yet neither character proclaimed their love lost but rather lamented the loss of the chance at what could have been. This provided a sound base from which their relationship could develop quickly without making me feel like they rushed into it. That Leah was being stalked by her ex and was resistant to a relationship with Clay, no matter how much she was drawn to him, made their story feel real. Because of the circumstances, her mixed messages (what she said vs. how she reacted and responded physically) didn’t come off as angsty to me, but rather the actions of a justifiably cautious woman. When Leah finally gave in to the inevitable and Clay let his inner Dom out in full force… Whew! Well I’ll just say those were some seriously hot sex scenes that I was more than happy to read more than once. While I obviously enjoyed the relationship development and smoldering sex scenes, it’s the way in which the author wove them together with the romantic suspense elements of the story that made Passion’s Dream such a pleasurable read for me and one I look forward to reading again WITHOUT the constant interruptions.
While The Doms of Passion Lake is a spin-off from Ms. Shelton’s Loving Sarah series, it is not necessary to read that series first. I suspect that readers of the Loving Sarah series will enjoy catching up with Sarah, Jesse, and Adam, as they do make appearances in Passion’s Dream, but not in a way that
will leave those readers who, like myself, have not read that series. It may, however, make you want to go back and read the series so that you can learn more about the trio. As much as I would like to know more about Clay’s CO and family, my reading list is a bit packed at the moment and includes the next book in this series, Passion’s Fury, and I am so excited to see if the triplets get their sexy-ly ever after in Passion’s Lake.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
When Simon Rafferty finds Kylie Ferrell sleeping in her broken-down car by the side of the road near Passion Lake, Virginia, the connection between them is instantaneous and combustible. He recognizes her as the woman he and his
two brothers have been searching for all their lives. Their lifetime submissive. And the fact that she’s homeless, injured, and targeted by the mob? Minor details.
Identical triplets and former spec ops soldiers, Caleb, Simon, and Ash Rafferty are more than capable of handling anything life throws at them. Including a sweet, sexy, lusciously curvy woman who has sworn off all men and who is clueless about the darkness of their needs and desires. Clueless…but intrigued. These dominant alpha males will do whatever it takes to get her into their bed, their hearts, their lives…and their dungeon.
But Kylie has secrets that put them all in deadly danger. And when that danger catches up with her, Caleb, Simon, and Ash must launch a desperate search to find her before she is ripped from them forever.
After reading Passion’s Dream, I was really looking forward to Passion’s Fury. The idea of a ménage
with the super-hot Rafferty triplets was almost too good to be true. While enjoyable, it wasn’t quite what I had hoped for. Despite the fact that the Doms of Passion Lake are known to be quite decisive and are not foot-draggers when it comes to claiming their subs, the speed with which Caleb, Ash, and Simon jumped into a relationship with Kylie was bordering on supersonic. That declarations of love were being made within 48 hours was a bit unrealistic, even if all involved kept commenting on how quick things were moving.
But setting aside the warp-speed insta-love, Passion’s Fury was an enjoyable read for the most part. I found Kylie’s flight response after her life blew up around her realistic, especially the way she automatically picked up her purse, laptop bag, and cell phone on her way out the door – the inclusion of a habitual muscle memory during a state of shock was rather fascinating. Fortunately for Kylie, the implosion of her life and her car breaking down where it did was probably the best things that could have happened to her because otherwise she would have never met the Rafferty triplets. Not only did the men do a stellar job of introducing her to the marvels of endless organisms and ménage sex, but their military backgrounds were the only thing standing between her and an extremely painful death.
As usual, Ms. Shelton brought all of her writing talents to the table when creating the extremely erotic sex scenes. But as with the declarations of love, I felt the progression of the sexual acts were a bit accelerated when taking into consideration that Kylie had lost her virginity just a few months earlier and had only had sex three times with one partner in that time. To take what is practically a 28 year-old virgin and introduce her to anal sex, double penetration, and BDSM within in a week’s time
just seemed unrealistic. Did it keep me from enjoying the sex scenes? Uh…no, because Ms. Shelton writes good sex. But readers who take issue with insta-love will likely want to avoid the book. Surprisingly, the part of the book I enjoyed the most was watching the Rafferty men in action when the situation called for it. Their military backgrounds and connections made the retrieval mission quite exciting and made the book more enjoyable for me. Even though I didn’t enjoy Passion’s Fury as much
as I had hoped to, I am looking forward to the next book in the series as I find the community and residents of Passion Lake to be quite interesting.
