Sun Damage by Nikki Rae

Life wasn’t what Sophie was expecting, so why should death be any different?
She’s come back from swimming between the two, and every problem she left is still there. And then some.
There’s the human world, where she has a brother on the verge of ruins, band mates all set to go on tour, and people she thought she wouldn’t be seeing for a long time showing up.
Then there’s her new world, where she’s seeing and hearing things that should not be heard or seen. Where Myles knows more about her than she could have ever guessed. She still doesn’t know exactly why Michael is tormenting her, but somehow, everything is connected.
The monsters are closing in on all sides and the question is, will Sophie be able to defeat them before it all ends?

I loved the first two books in this vampire series, and I could not wait to sink my teeth (har har) into the third installment!
This book brings us to Sophie’s transition to a vampire…and it’s not going so well.  She’s had a hard life, and it seems her status as the undead won’t be any easier.  Sophie is having a hard time doing the one thing a vampire should do, drink blood. Her body seems to reject it.  She is slowly starving, and must also come to terms with her love (and now maker) Myles having kept things from her that will now be revealed.  Can she trust him?  Can she still pursue what makes her happy with her band and her brother?
This was an emotionally intense book. Poor Sophie had already been through so much, I really wanted it to be a bit of an easier road for her.  Alas, it doesn’t seem it was meant to be.  And
while I understand her frustration and distrust of Myles, I can’t help but love him a little.  He really tries the best that he can to make up for the things he’s done, and to help Sophie’s transition be a little easier.I don’t want to ruin any surprises, but I will say that this installment was a real page-turner for me.  I actually tossed and turned a bit in bed after I finished thinking about the epilogue.  It was an exciting and emotional read that did not disappoint, and a brave conclusion for a series that I will personally consider to be among one of my favorites. 5 stars.
