Mike Haddican is a proud small-town gym owner, a renowned karate instructor, and all-around good guy. He’s never needed much to be happy: his family, his friends, his girl. Especially his girl. But when Kyra left him seven years ago to chase her dreams, she all but destroyed him.
Contemporary dancer Kyra Brims made it big, but it cost her dearly. With her life and career in shambles, she doesn’t need a do-over, she needs a friggin’ miracle. Injured, broke, and out of options after going through hell, she’s come back to Alden, the town she swore she’d never return to and home of Mike Haddican, the man who ripped her soul to pieces, to lick her wounds and recover.
Forgetting and letting go proved impossible when they were worlds apart; now that they’re stuck together they don’t stand a chance, especially with Mike’s grandma and her partners in crime plotting, meddling and refusing to give up on them.
As the passion that never died burns out of control, so do old hurts and unresolved issues. Both have reasons to be angry and feel betrayed, but now that they’re older, are they wise enough to make things work?
The synopsis on this book sucked me in and I WANTED to love it so much… then I started reading and wasn’t so excited.
It turned from exciting and new plot line to a plot line used many times.
Mike is a sweet good guy who plans to stick around after high school. Kyra wants to explore her career of dancing. But when the two meet and fall in love in high school. Mike tries to persuade her to stay with a shiny diamond, but Kyra chooses her career and leaves.
Flash forward seven years to Kyra now has a baby and is divorced and returning home broke. Things are awkward and filled with tension between Mike and Kyra over love that was left unfulfilled years earlier. You’ll have to read to see what happens and decide if you like it for yourself.
There are a lot of hot scenes, almost too much to for me and I love my naughty scenes.
I forgot how much I loved Elle Aycart’s writing. When I was offered the opportunity to read and review Deep Down I almost passed on it because I wasn’t sure I had time, but when I saw who the author was I decided that I would make time. Boy am I glad I did!
I found myself laughing out loud so many times while I read the book and a couple of times I was nearly in tears from laughing so hard. The antics of the OGs (Original Grandmas) kept me in stiches, especially when they fell victim to autocorrect on their text messages (and I’m laughing right now as I think about them). But the OGs weren’t the only ones in the book with a sense of humor, Kyra and Mike’s antics gave me several laughs as well. Sam’s pizza topping combinations and the reactions of the adults in her life were another source of amusement.
I also forgot how utterly enjoyable Ms. Aycart’s male characters could be. I love the Bowen brothers and her ability to write an alpha male with a dirty mouth, hot body with tattoos and piercings, protective nature, and loving heart was ever-present in Mike. The sex scenes are so freaking hot and intense and plentiful and graphic – I did say Mike had a dirty mouth. And while women aren’t my thing, Kyra is a hot, sassy women who you cannot help but love and her love for Mike made the sex scenes that much hotter.
Elle Aycart’s Deep Down is an excellent start to her new series. I cannot wait until the next book comes out – I gotta know what the OGs are up to and how Rachel makes out now that she seems to be the next up for the matchmaking grannies. In the meantime I can entertain myself with rereads of all of Elle’s books. Be warned, when you read Deep Down you will need a spare pair of panties ladies, but whether it’s from the super-hot sex scenes or laughing so hard you nearly pee your pants remains to be seen.

After a colorful array of jobs all over Europe ranging from translator to chocolatier to travel agent to sushi chef to flight dispatcher, Elle Aycart is certain of one thing and one thing only: aside from writing romances, she has abso-frigging-lutely no clue what she wants to do when she grows up. Not that it stops her from trying all sorts of crazy stuff. While she is probably now thinking of a new profession, her head never stops churning new plots for her romances. She lives currently in Barcelona, Spain, with her husband and two daughters, although who knows, in no time she could be living at the Arctic Circle in Finland, breeding reindeer.
Elle loves to hear from readers!
