Jas T. Ward has always used writing as a necessary escape. With a past that is marred with a difficult childhood and domestic violence as well as being homeless as an adult, Ward lost her creative voice when she lost her soul mate to suicide.
Finding that creative voice once again in writing in social media via blogs and creative writing groups, it was the fans that encouraged her to put her literary weavings to paper for them to enjoy.
Ward lives in Texas with her dog and cat- Author Dog Pumkin and Writer Kitty Orleans and is the proud parent of three independent children.
When asked why she writes, Ward answers simply:
Reading saved me. It was my salvation and my haven. I now strive to pay that gift back by writing books that can give the same to others. And to keep myself sane.

I was asked to write about a paranormal creature kidnapping a person. One that fascinated me. I gave this a lot of thought and I came up with the little fun below. Enjoy!
I had always been told “do not feed strays for then they will never go”. I had no idea when I sat out scraps for the sad looking dog that stood shivering in the rain outside my deck how true that saying was.The dog was scraggly, wet and beaten up and as I hustled my groceries inside, I did my best to ignore its shuffling sway as it eyed me coming up the steps. How did it get there? Whose was it? Why was it here?I continued my firm resolve to ignore in hopes it would indeed go away, forcing myself not to look at it through the ice and rain covered window above the kitchen sink. But it just stood there. For the briefest of moments, our eyes met and I found it odd that it was not the usual canine eyes—there was something there.
More intelligence? More humanity? A deeper soul?
Or maybe I was low on rocky road ice cream. Addressing the last possible factor, I grabbed a pint of Ben and Jerry’s as I walked from the kitchen, flicking off the light and made my way to the living room. It would go away, that strange dog in the yard. It would have to for there would be no scraps coming from this hand.
I was getting engrossed in a movie I had seen a dozen times after getting comfy for the night when something thudded against the big window in the living room causing me to jump at the sound and drop my ice cream. “Good
god. What was that?” I stood, stepping over the sweet goo on my carpet to walk over and pull back the drapes. “What the hell?”
There stood the dog and now it was staring at me with those intense creepy eyes. Why had it moved around to the window of the room I was in? How did it know? I met that gaze again and let the drapes drop as I backed away. Now I was getting totally freaked out as goose bumps rose up on my arms. “Maybe it’s not going away until I feed it. Maybe.” I moved back to the kitchen to walk over to the fridge and threw it open. What did I have that was hungry dog worthy? Did the pooch even have a preference? I chuckled at my thoughts as I grabbed the left-over Chinese from the take-out joint from the night before and walked back to the patio door. Opening it, I stepped out to look left and right and it appeared the dog was gone. Shrugging, I dumped out the container on the snow covered deck and once again looked for my visitor.
The sudden impact knocked the breath out of me as I went flying back inside to land on the floor with a bone-rattling thud. I had to gasp to catch my breath and try to focus through my panic at what was happening.
Above me, straddling me was a man. A dark, wet-haired man with rugged features and a shadow of a beard. His eyes were intense and his skin a tawny tone.
“What? Who…” Panic gave way to determination as the words slipped from my lips right before I brought a knee up to kick the man and realized, oh goodness, he was completely naked. That didn’t stop me as I yanked myself away from his grasp, stumbling when I found my feet to run towards the living room and grab my cellphone which lay on the coffee table.
I must have screamed because I heard some strange sound right before my bare feet hit the ice cream and I went slipping to fall upon the couch. The man was fast and he was once again on me. This time I know I screamed just seconds before he covered my mouth with a large, overly warm hand. He brought his head down as I stared at him with eyes wide from fear to…wait…did he just sniff me?
I blinked as he continued to run his face along my neck, taking in huge sniffs and even, surprisingly, he licked my neck.
Freak level escalated, but then he pulled his head back to whisper something soft. My mouth was opened for words, but no sound issued from between my lips. He nuzzled my neck, now gentle as his hands ran down my arms and it was then that I heard what he was saying.
“Oh no! You’re nuts.” I was moving again, clawing and scratching as I rolled off the couch and he grabbed at me to lift me off my feet. I screamed and hit but it seemed as if he was being beaten with a feather against a rock hard, chiseled chest. He cradled me against him, pinning my arms and said the word again.
He then started walking towards the door as I just stared up at him. “Why do you say that?”
He looked down at me with those strange amber eyes and gave me a gentle smile. “Because you are. And by the way?” Stepping over the now cold rejected left-overs on the deck. “I don’t like Chinese.”
